[A month ago Casey would have absolutely said he doesn't have an anxiety disorder. He has problems, mental or otherwise, he is in less-than-polite terms a bit broken in the head. He knows this well. Anxiety, though? Nah. Usually he's good.
Usually.
Not so much right now. Maybe there's a little anxiety. The fights with Donnie and the fires sharing more unpleasant memories with strangers and now, now, Cassandra Jones Sr. is in town and he all but lied to her face when she asked for his name. He'd panicked! He'd never had to do that with his mom before! And yeah, he technically did it with Leo (who is and is not his dad) but they had time to work up to that. It wasn't immediately apparent when he'd given his name, which was her name, and he hadn't instantly known they had some strange relation. Whereas she's bound to notice. On account of it being her name (his name).
So. He's CJ now! And he quit as Donnie's assistant! And he's kind of a coward, avoiding all of it. Which is why he's letting himself into Rue's cottage mid-morning, with a wriggling bag over his shoulder.]
M- ...Mom?
[Wow even calling out the word feels a bit weird now. Mom is Mom. Of course! That's never changing. Except Mom-who-is-not-Mom is also here now. Oh geez.]
Knocking still felt polite for this situation. What if someone came in wanting to talk or something? [He will be old and grey and continue to idly argue with Rue about knocking.
He walks over to Rue, smiling at them a little. He reaches out to hug them. There is no warning, just hug.]
[ Approaching the Hoot Couture is intimidating in its beauty.
It takes a while for Sayori to find, the day she visits. She hadn't asked Lex where in Epiphany it was, and she figured it'd be fun to look for on her own than to bother him about it, since it gives her something to do with her time. But that shopfront, its blossoming flowers--and then seeing the clothes on display gave such a good reason for her to hesitate.
Everything was already pretty from the outside, that Sayori fiddles with the strings of her simple purse, looking at herself in her simple skirt and cardigan, touching at her hair.
...but she can have a look right? So she reasons with herself, taking in a breath for courage and stepping through the front door! ...gingerly, to be greeted to the scents inside, and an even lovelier interior that she somehow keeps walking into.
Maybe because she can't help but admire it, no matter how luxurious it is compared to her...!
Sayori doesn't think to call out for anyone, to bring attention to herself, and she might miss if there already happens to be someone in the room if they're not immediately in view.
Sorry, she'll catch up to the reality that other people are usually present in a shop in maybe 5, 10 minutes-- ]
[She turns again, more slowly, feeling at the shoulders.]
Maybe it could come in a little, my shoulders aren't so broad. [And she's a bit too skinny, a young girl still growing and filling out in all directions.] I don't think it'd take much, though. It feels so nice.
[Rue doesn't look like they mind in the slightest, though their big eyes do brighten at the tease.]
I was a part of the faerie court for thousands of years, so I imagine that some of that influence is difficult to fully shake off. Though I promise you, I'm much happier here sans titles.
[Rue may be all blooms and soft fabrics but there's a thread of dark humor to them always.]
You're being silly, darling. I am not scolding you in the slightest. I trust and understand you, Donnie. I'm only explaining why others might be reacting the way they are.
[Rue's in the kitchen when they hear that soft uncertain call for them, immediately setting aside the dishes they were putting away to pop into the living room and seek out Casey instead.
Immediately, as it always does, their face just brightens.]
Casey! How lucky am I to get to see you so many times this week, hm? [They approach him to drop a massive paw delicately to his shoulder, as they tip in to kiss him on the cheek.] Oh! Darling, your bag is wiggling. You didn't bring another sibling for me to adopt, did you?
Trust me - [And Rue approaches her, delicately reaching down to gently brush the hair from her face with a talon.] You look radiant. And this is your color.
[And more than that, she looks so happy and Rue knows they would do anything to see her looking like that as often as possible.]
Please, you have to take this dress. On me. It's too perfect for you not to!
[Sayori is left alone for only a moment or two before the owner of this establishment comes sweeping in from the back.
Delloso de la Rue is a towering, feathered and taloned, mossy-green owlbear in the most luxurious, dreamy gown ever created. Behind them, a trail of pink peonies grows up from the laminate flooring in the wake of their trailing skirts, disappearing magically after a few moments, and above them, their Legend halo is a fragrant, flurry of beautiful pink blooms, in constant blossom.
And when Rue's big, owl eyes catch the young girl, their heart-shaped face softens at the sight of an unfamiliar face. They do so love making new friends.]
Welcome to Hoot Couture! My name is Delloso de la Rue, but please, I insist you call me Rue. All of my friends do.
[The gentle callout - unintented or not - does make him falter briefly. Is he here too often!? Is his nerves making him a nuisance? But of course Rue would never think that, they've always said they love seeing their kids no matter-
-oh. The bag, right. With some effort he shrugs off that rising anxiousness and offers up a smile.]
Not a sibling. But you did say she'd be family, so...
[He shrugs off his bag and opens the flap, and with a somewhat affronted meow, the Queen herself climbs out, hopping down to the floor and stretching dramatically. Sure enough, it's his robot cat project, all completed, as realistic as Ciel had turned out, and with a rainbow-calico fur pattern. Her eyes gleam with a bright, unnatural metallic blue as she peers up at Rue, scanning her surroundings.]
[ Really, what's the difference between a moment or two and five or ten minutes.
Especially when you're being dazzled the way Sayori is. But it must be the sound of their skirts that gets Sayori to spin to their entrance and before they speak: the high-forming figure of feathers and glamour, the flowers that surround them, a frame that would stand out anywhere.
Somehow, Sayori's eyes grow wider and her hands go to her cheeks, and her already blush-pink hair somehow takes on...a rosier tint, shimmering a little. Staring for a second, but- ]
R-rue...! [ They're beautiful, they're amazing...! And they're every sign that Sayori's come into the wrong place, that she drops her hands to fiddle with her bag, gaze moving aside to the floor. ]
Ehehe, I'm sorry, ummm, I just saw your shop from outside and wanted to peek in...! I've never seen a shop so beautiful before!
[ That makes sense, right? It's not like it isn't partially true: it is so beautiful, and oh gosh, how must she look right now to its owner? ]
For a second, Lex's eyes go wide. Much like when he saw their appearance for the first time, something like terror makes him forget to breathe. His eyes shift to an alarmed bright purple color. It isn't an immediate Threat to him or anything, but it definitely makes Rue feel very contextually different to him, ]
[ But then he inhales sharply and rights himself. No, no, there's no reason to be so apparently intimidated, that doesn't benefit either of them. Because, the fact is is that there's something equally or more terrifying to consider. Namely, ]
- Should I find a way to speak to the Fox, I think to ask of the matter will be the first thing I do.
[ Because, you know, the replica thing is - unsettling. Yeah. ]
[Casey could come knock on their door at 4am every single morning and Rue would still greet him with a kiss and drag him inside. There is simply never too much of any of their sons in their life, but especially not Casey. It doesn't matter how much time they spend together, they never run out of things to say.
It's so wonderful.
Rue's gaze lingers for just a moment longer on their son - something is certainly up - but unfortunately, the newest member of the family is just the most perfect distraction.]
Oh! Look at her! [Rue squats down immediately, holding out a taloned paw, letting her make the first move.] You are so gorgeous, sweet darling Queen! Casey, her coat came out so beautifully!
[It's also borderline homophobic that Peter is getting so tall. Just a few months ago, he fit perfectly under their wing, but look at him now! Their giant boy.]
[All Rue sees is a nervous teenage girl with stars in her eyes who could absolutely use a pretty new dress to wear and feel confident within. Exactly their speciality.]
Nonsense! I would never make anyone apologize for coming by, even if it's just to window shop. Besides, I quite enjoy the company. I ask my sons to stop by as often as they can after school, simply so I have someone to talk to besides all of these mannequins. So believe me, you being here is such a kindness to me. I was feeling lonely in the back. I'd much rather be out here with you.
[And if Sayori will allow them, Rue steps close and holds out a massive paw, taloned and feathered, but gentle, offering to take her hand in theirs.]
If you have the chance, I would love to hear her answer. But I suppose there isn't much point in fretting over it too deeply. Pray, my friend, does any of this fabric speak to you? I can see making you a lovely shirt, I think.
Every action in Sayori right now is on a delay, between the kind words and fluctuating (positive!) emotions going through her. Her cheeks warm, the question making her pause, but she does eventually reach out her hand towards the paw to rest in shyly. ]
Y-yes... thank you...!
[ Should she say what she would like to look at up close?? Say more?? Sorry, she is in a dreamy kind of land right now--she is feeling like a princess with this treatment. ]
