[He needs to make sure his gift is working properly still before he gives it to Rue. He doesn't want to give them a defective gift or anything.
As promised, Peter shows up at Rue's doorstep. He has a small box tucked under his arm, using his free hand to knock on the door.] Rue-? Hey, its Peter!
[Rue's a touch slower than normal getting to the door, not quite so sweeping and graceful in their movements, but their happiness at seeing Peter lights up their face immediately.]
Do not tease me with knocking, Peter. Come in freely anytime, you have my permission. My home is your home, always.
[A quick hug and a kiss to the top of his head before Rue is ushering the teen inside. Every time that Peter comes by, there are more and more photographs of their family on display, in little frames, hanging from colorful ribbons by the big windows, surrounded by freshly cut flowers. It is just all of Rue's happiest memories and favorite people.]
Are you feeling peckish? I could make you a quick lunch if you'd like.
I was thinking cucumber, unless you'd like something a bit more filling.
[A quick washing of their paws and Rue gets right into dragging a few ingredients out to start with, including some fresh fruit to slice up as a side.]
[Let's be honest, nothing makes them happier than shoveling too much food at their sons. Let these boys grow!]
Turkey it is. [Do not say a word, Peter. Owlbears are not birds, they promise this isn't weird.
Rue is just going to drag all of the condiments and ingredients out, gently plate four pieces of bread - just in case Peter feels up for devouring two full sandwiches - but otherwise gives the teen complete rein in his sandwich creation. They'll just be slicing up some apples in the meantime.]
I'll have to make another few before you leave, so you can take them back with you for Leo.
Turkey sounds perfect. [Unsurprisingly, Peter is more than happy to build his own sandwich, probably overstuffing them in the process. He's hungry, ok, ok.
Peter is only distracted by the sound of something moving overhead. The teenager pauses, blinking as he glances up.]
[Rue's too happy in the moment, humming softly to themself as they cut through apples, to hear the scuttling above. But when Peter peers up, they can't help but follow his gaze right up to their ceiling -
To find the biggest, strangest looking spider an owlbear has ever seen!]
Uh- well, its a spider-bot. I made it. It's what I was going to give you, but, it has other ideas. [He offers back to Rue, before stepping away from the counter to open his arms.] Come here!
[Their head perks up at that mention, face full of gentle awe.]
You made this for me? This is the gift you've brought? [oh, they are touched. A little friend to help around their home. Help with what? Mischief and cleaning the ceiling, maybe, but either way, Rue is delighted.
While it wiggles in Peter's arms, Rue reaches in to carefully run a talon along a leg.]
[Peter blinks a little at the response, surprised.] Oh, yeah, I thought... it'd be cool? I thought you wouldn't mind company around the house too, I mean.
[The spider-bot beeps repeatedly. The spider reaches a leg out to try and hold onto Rue's much larger talon.] I haven't named the spider-bot, I thought you might want to?
