[The next time Rue visits the shop, they'll find that not only has the storeroom been rearranged with respect toward their preferred tools, fabrics, threads, and other bits-and-bobs, but that Donnie has expanded certain spaces to better accommodate their size.
More storage utilizes high shelves and hanging racks from the ceiling, well within Rue's reach with rolling ladders (much like those in larger archives) for those employees who need the help. There is now more space around mannequins and fitting areas so that Rue doesn't have to so carefully watch how they move.
For every shred of fabric, every roll of thread, every piece of consumable material, Donnie has a small hook next to its place with a small wooden tag hanging from it. The front of the tags is a blank, sanded and polished wood, and the back has red-painted "ORDER" carved into its surface.
In the back on the small desk Donnie uses to follow up with shop business is a folded note with the name "Rue" written on the front in Donnie's neat, blocky writing. Inside reads:
Rue,
In the top drawer are diagrams with the layout changes you can reference if you can't find something. I did my best to keep all items as close to their original places while re-organizing. You shouldn't have to lean over so much. It's bad for your back, immortal or not.
As for the tags, just flip them if you notice you need more of something. I'll take care of the rest. Room can be made for new items, just let me know.
If you want things changed back, tell me. (But it is better this way, just saying.)
Yours, Donnie
And beneath his signature, a small drawing of a smiling owl's face.]
After seeing the intense thought and care put into the shop strictly for their own comfort and use, Rue trembles so much with emotion they simply have to sit down and cry. It's just too much - too thoughtful, too sweet, too caring. They don't know if they'll ever get used to having a family who cares so deeply for them after so many millennia alone, but they'll clutch all of this love close to their chest and never risk letting it go for even a moment.
But next time they slip into Donnie's apartment with dinner to find him tinkering at his workbench, they'll press a lingering kiss to his forehead and murmur their thanks to their boy, letting him know how happy he's made them and how proud they are. And truthfully, he probably already knows all of that, but Rue won't risk such things going unsaid ever again.]
