[Rue is still nearby while trying to give the girl all of the privacy she needs, the owlbear tidying up a rack of clothing just a few feet away. But then Amity peeks out at them, shyly, and Rue's feathery face goes excited.]
[With that invitation, Amity emerges from the curtain wearing the dress, the soft shades of pink and purple fabric complementing her hair, the shape fitting her very well. She looks pleased, giving a little spin.]
I think it's almost perfect! Fit-wise, I mean. I can't see a single flaw in the design. I don't usually go with such bright colours, but it's really pretty...
Amity, darling, you look beautiful! That color looks so perfect with your hair, and the fit of the dress is you perfectly! Do you quite love it? I could take in the waist, if you like, and fix the sleeves, just so the fit really is perfect. But only if this is the one you really want.
[She turns again, more slowly, feeling at the shoulders.]
Maybe it could come in a little, my shoulders aren't so broad. [And she's a bit too skinny, a young girl still growing and filling out in all directions.] I don't think it'd take much, though. It feels so nice.
Trust me - [And Rue approaches her, delicately reaching down to gently brush the hair from her face with a talon.] You look radiant. And this is your color.
[And more than that, she looks so happy and Rue knows they would do anything to see her looking like that as often as possible.]
Please, you have to take this dress. On me. It's too perfect for you not to!
[The brush of a talon is startling, almost as much as it had been back in the hot springs, but Amity doesn't flinch away. A huge owlbear isn't scary, any more than the demons of the Isles. But such a gentle touch of her hair is still very unusual. It gives her pause, but after a moment, that bright smile returns.]
...I... I will, then!
[She turns one more time, indulgent, loving the way it flutters.]
[And Rue waddles away back towards the register, where they keep all of the accessories hanging to browse through. They pluck up a flower hair pin, in a matching purple, before moving back over to where Amity is admiring her dress.]
[Normally Amity would have very mixed feelings about perfection - particularly in association with her - but hearing it without the smug condescension it usually comes with... well. It hits differently. She catches herself smiling shyly, lifting a hand to touch against the clip as if it might break in her hands. (It does not. It feels stable and soft in her hair.)]
Thank you... I promise I'll pay for everything, as soon as I can!
Thank you... thank you so much! That sounds wonderful!
[Something to look forward to! She wore dresses so rarely back home, but this is a grand excuse to indulge a bit. Thinking about it... ahh, this could be fun. She could surprise Luz, even...]
[Oh, Rue loves seeing her smile. It feels like they were able to help.]
The lovely thing about Folkmore is you have all of the time in the world to discover exactly that. There's no rush. My offer exists for as long as we are here together.
[oh my god, rue remembers the first time they ever slept in. they hated it! but it was kind of wonderful just to be able to do it.]
Just remember that you are still settling in. There's no reason to overfill your schedule just yet. Take some time and learn about all Folkmore has to offer. Make friends. Have fun. That's going to be the most important.
Embrace the calm while you can. It is a blessing to have those perfect moments to simply breathe and remember how beautiful life can be. That is the very best advice I can give you for Folkmore.
[Nothing has been a greater lesson than that for Rue.]
Now, why don't I take in the waist of your dress and you can be on your way.
[Amity stares at them in wonder for a moment, marveling at how they can drop such kind and knowing words on the spot. Embrace the calm, see life as beautiful...! To slow down and simply enjoy it is a wondrous thing. She'll try not to take it for granted.
...Ah, right. She's here for clothes, not... not life advice. An unexpected bonus, but she shouldn't forget her main goal.]
Oh- of course! Right away! [She scampers back into the change room to switch her clothes back, flustered but pleased. She's really glad she stopped by, now.]
From there, it won't take long at all for Rue to alter the dress, showing Amity the snack fridge while they work, and before too long, they've packed up her new dress into a Hoot Couture box packed with excessive tissue paper.]
Amity politely accepts one (1) snack to not accidentally overstay her welcome (string cheese, her first time, which is delightful) and keeps herself busy taking notes on her relic (a part of which is creating a tab, very responsibly!) while Rue works. Once it's finished, she accepts the box with delicate appreciation, marvelling at how pretty and professional everything is.]
Oh, this looks wonderful! [It wasn't at all necessary, but she appreciates the effort.] Again, thank you so much. I'm so glad I came!
[If Rue is going to give a hundred percent effort normally, you can beat Amity is getting a hundred and ten.]
And you'll come by next week, won't you? Just to show off your new dress and chat with me, won't you? We can grab lunch together, I want to hear all about how Folkmore has been treating you.

There. Now you are perfect.

Don't worry about a thing, darling. I promise, take your time. I'll accept your payment whenever you're ready. And then we can plan your next dress.

[That sounds... really delightful, actually. Amity takes a moment to let that sink in.]
You want to design a dress? For me? [A pause, then more hesitantly,] With me?

I can't think of anything that would make me happier than to see you standing in the dress of your dreams. However that might look for you .

I'll have to think about what that means.

That's true. I'll get restless before too long, but things have been so busy back home for ages. It's nice that things are calm for a while.

[And it is so easy for Rue to smile right back.]
Then I'll see you soon. And please, if there's anything you need, you only need to let me know.
